Take a water taxi on a misty morning across the water hyacinth filled lake and this island appears like a ghost. The entire island is a series of stairs lined with wonderful little shops, restaurants and stalls. It is stepping back in time since nothing much has changed here in hundreds of years. Vibrant colors, the statue at the apex of the island, the views and the butterfly fisherman on the lake are just surreal. You could easily spend the day here exploring.
I love walking and what a better place than the Isle of Janitzio, the place of no cars. Yes, no buses, cabs or vehicles. Take the boat from several locations around Lake Patzcuaro. I prefer the muelle (boat dock in Patzcuaro) and walk up hill to the best views of the Lake. If you feel adventuresome, talk a walk up the spiral staircase to the top of the statue for peep holes for viewing. Along the way on the interior walls is the life of Morelos is depicted in murals painted by Ramón Alba de la Canal and other great Mexican muralists. The boats operate daily and are a treat.

This Wednesday (4/9): Show and Tell

For this Wednesday's class, be prepared to take 5 minutes to show your progress on your website. I'm not expecting them to be done – this is a "work in progress" showing. To help things move along, if your site is live, please paste a link into your "problem log" post so that we can jump directly to your site from the blog. If you have only been working on files locally, bring a drive I can plug into my computer.

We'll take a look at your site, and please share one cool thing you figured out - or one problem that was satisfying to solve.

3 Week Plan + Problem Log

3 Week Plan
(Week 1)Wednesday: Re-pick template, input navbar information, sort pages and content wanted, write the description

(Week 2)Monday: Design logo/ name banner and tree diagram in Photoshop, upload more information
Wednesday: Work on the tree diagram, sort, edit, and upload pictures

(Week 3)Monday: Edit/update information content on a page, include references to other activists/ authors/ websites/ of use, finish tree diagram and upload to page
Wednesday: Find non-profits to upload

Problem Log
(Week 1) I accomplished what I wanted to other than writing all types of descriptions. I like the editing layout and template of Squarespace much more than Strikingly too. So far no problems...

(Week 2) I worked on a design logo during both classes, uploaded a couple of varieties, and hated them all. After it all, I reverted back to the default text and liked it the most. I still want to work on hopefully creating a useful logo so it's still in progress but I aesthetically prefer the text over an image. I added more design structure and information but I still have a good amount to upload. I've also uploaded banner photos to the pages, some temporary until I can make better. I haven't worked on the tree diagram too much as the inputting information has taken longer than I initially expected.

Problem Log

Last week, I had the chance to post pictures of Patzcuaro, add a navigation bar, and a picture header. I  will be adding a small description on every picture, so they audience know what they are looking at.

Piera's 3 Week Plan

Week 1 Mon 3/26 : move domain from sqarespace to cargo collective. - choose template. Weds 3/28 : Gather material including images and text. - create wireframe Weekend/On-going - make additional material for first issue Week 2 Mon 4/2 : make homepage. - use a single image. - design: viewers click on the logo, then enter the main site. Continue figuring out how to transfer domain... Weds 4/4 and beyond : create system of display. - focus on a unique layout. - start uploading material. Problem Solving Log: I thought Squarespace might work after all. However, I found their templates extremely limiting. I was nervous about switching to CargoCollective because I thought my url would be changed to .com instead of its original .org The .org url is important because this is an organized community that I'm developing. I've chosen a CargoCollective template to begin manipulating. I still need to take the appropriate steps to transfer my domain from Squarespace to Cargo.

3 week plan
