Env Sci Ecology and Sustainability

Hi,
I'm Aaron
(Can you guess this image?)
I was Born and raised here in Incline Village. I'm on the lookout for a new paradise somewhere 👀 if that's possible because this place is getting too crowded and polluted for me. I love everything science, nature, and sustainability. Interested in most other things.
I'm taking Web Design in my last semester because I have already spent much of my life DYI-ing all kinds of computer stuff and it made sense to audit the class to pick up a few things and keep it fresh in mind going forward.

  • Grabyourwallet is an interesting website because someone threw it together as part of a larger divestment movement that is happening right now. Positive change has to come from the ground up. People need to realize where their money is going to these forces that are threatening our lives.
  • Astronomy Picture of the Day is a cool website for astronomy related photography and phenomenon.
  • Earth Nullschool is a cool website to check out the weather.
Hi, I'm Parker. I was born and raised in Modesto, CA. I transferred to SNC last semester to play on the golf team. I love to be in/by the water, whether it's the lake, a river, or ocean. I'm all about trying new foods and traveling to new places. A website I visit often is Pinterest,  it's a great site to find inspiration for home projects or new beauty tips.

Hello,

My name is Sam Conaway and I am a marketing major. I grew up in Las Vegas and came to SNC on a academic/ cross country scholarship. I recently decided to quit the team and I spend most days at the gym instead of running. My favorite color is tiffany blue and my favorite type of music is country. My absolute favorite website is AmazonI probably use Amazon at least once a week because Tahoe has limited shopping and I have a high demand for different  products.

Introduction: Stephanie Coates

Hi! I'm Steph. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and transferred to SNC in Spring '15. I'm studying Journalism and ODAL and am graduating this May. My goal for the future is to have a location-independent career and work as a freelancer (whether it's through writing, photography, web design, consulting, social media marketing, etc.) so I can live, work, and travel where I want, whenever I want. I have a phobia of 9-5 desk jobs.

I'm passionate about health and wellness, nutrition, anything outdoor adventure-related, and social psychology. My favorite things to do include hiking, cooking, and spending time with nice people.

A website I frequently visit is Zen Habits. I like the simple, uncluttered design and the content is great for anyone interested in health and wellness.

Introductions: Jesse Aguilar

Hi i'm Jesse. I'm from San Jose, California and I transferred here as a sophomore last semester. I am majoring in Digital Arts & Entrepreneurship and I hope to learn a lot here at SNC. I really enjoy taking business classes alongside digital arts because I feel that it will help me stand out, after graduation, when looking for a job. After I graduate I plan to move back to the bay area and work as a digital artist.

Rooftops - somewhere in SF - St. Patty's Day '16

Aside from art, my other passion is in cycling; dirt jumping, mountain biking, BMX racing, DH racing, dual slalom, road. One of my all time favorite websites is pinkbike.com It is essentially an eBay, Facebook, youtube & news source all on one site for the biking community.

Welcome - Spring 2017

Welcome to the blog for the web design class.

You have a two-part assignment to complete before next class, this coming Thursday.

PART ONE

Make a post on this blog. You should: a) write a short paragraph about yourself, b) include a picture of yourself, and c) provide a link to a website that you like or visit often.

PART TWO

Be prepared, next class, to talk about why you like the website for a presentation of five to ten minutes. Write and print out an outline, which you will hand in on Thursday's class (this is not a full paper, but an outline you can refer to in your presentation). Talk about:

1. The design of the site

You should be able to describe the use of:
a) color
b) fonts
c) images
d) the general layout

How do each of these elements serve (or undermine) the purpose and content of the website? What is the emotional or design quality of each of these elements? For instance, a site designed for children might use colors that are bright, vivid, and friendly -- with a font that appears playful or toy-like.

2. The navigation of the site

How it the site organized? How do you get from place to place? Is the content on the site easily accessible? Are there different navigation schemes on different parts of the site, or is it consistent across the site?

3. The functionality of the site -- what the site "does."

Also, if you have a website of you own, post a link to that as well.

Finally -- if you'd like to download a copy of the syllabus, it's here:

Finally, finally - the youtube "clip of the day" times two:
